Wednesday 13th January 2010 9:15am

School is open today but numbers are much depleted as many school buses have been cancelled and journeys by car are proving hazardous for many. All those who can’t attend are to access the “snow work” programme as previously advised. Inspection continues…..!

I am proud of the efforts made by our staff and parents to deal with this frustrating period. Although schools in parts of the county are closing we will remain open.

There will be rearrangement of aspects of the programme but we will do our best to provide a meaningful timetable.

Sunday 10th January 2010 - 11.20 a.m.

At this stage we plan to open the School on Monday 11th January.  Year 11 students should continue to prepare for their mock exams as per the published timetable. Junior School Admissions will take place for those who can attend and be rescheduled for those who can't.  Anyone who can't attend School is to follow the "snow work" programme as described in a schoolcomms message.  Staff should continue to prepare for Inspection and "snow work" today.

These plans are subject to the weather.  A final decision will be posted on the website and via schoolcomms at 7am on Monday and each day bad weather continues.  Anyone concerned about their journey should wait for this decision before leaving home.

Please expect a further update at 18:00 Sunday and again at 07:00 on Monday.

Friday 8th January 2010 - 2 pm

Thank you everyone, staff, parents and pupils for your tolerance and support during this rather trying period. The school is only ever closed if absolutely necessary. We are continuing to plan for next week, not least because we have our Inspection, but further closures may yet be necessary.

Please consult the website on Sunday night for information about Monday. If we do close again, work will be set. I have been content to let our pupils and their families relax and enjoy the snow, knowing that the seniors will be working. This can't continue indefinitely so please keep an eye on this website. In the meantime I hope that everyone is safe, warm and enjoying time together.

HPV Immunisation Wednesday 30th September 2009

This immunisation session for girls in year 8 and 10 – 13 has been CANCELLED after discussion with the Primary Health Care Trust and our school doctor Dr Caro Godlee. Although the Director of Immunisation at the Department of Health, Prof Salisbury has said there is no link shown between the vaccine and the death of the poor girl in Coventry we have taken the decision with other local schools, to cancel tomorrow’s immunisation session. We will wait until the results of the post-mortem are known before we make any further decisions about starting the immunisation programme.
Thank you for your understanding.

Thursday 3rd September 2009

We hope that you have had a very relaxing summer break and that your daughters and sons are looking forward to seeing their friends again in school and starting the busy Autumn term.

As you are aware, the Pandemic Flu Planning Committee in school has been meeting regularly to review plans, and members have been keeping a close eye on the global and national developments during the summer.

There has been advice from the health authorities that, after the summer lull, there is likely to be a surge in swine flu cases in the Autumn.

During the next few months, we would ask parents to keep students at home who are unwell. This is particularly the case if the child is showing signs of fever and one, or more, of the following symptoms: cough, runny nose, sore throat, joint / muscle pain, vomiting and / or diarrhoea. Parents should ring the National Pandemic Flu Line (0800 1 513 513), or go online at www.direct.gov.uk/pandemicflu, to check symptoms and find out how to obtain treatment if required, and notify the school of the outcome.

Any student who develops a raised temperature (38 degrees or above) and one, or more, of any of the above symptoms during the course of the school day, will be isolated, under supervision, in a designated room in school. Parents will be contacted and asked to collect their child as soon as possible. Children should be kept at home until they have been free of symptoms for 48 hours.

It is essential that we have up-to-date contact numbers for you and numbers for extra emergency contacts, in case you are ill or unavailable (please e-mail l.green@oxf.gdst.net subject ‘extra contact numbers’).

Please reinforce hygiene measures with your child and encourage him/her to bring a supply of tissues to school each day. We will again be emphasising good hygiene practices e.g. hand washing, use / disposal of tissues etc., when students are back in school.

By following these procedures, recommended by the NHS, we hope your children will stay as well as possible and we would greatly appreciate your support and flexibility in the coming months. We will keep you informed in INFO and via e-mail and on the web-site under ’urgent updates’, as we receive further advice from the Oxfordshire Health Emergency Planning Group, the Health Protection Agency and the Government.
